Homemade Shampoo Recipe

This is a simple recipe I have been using for a few months now and had to make some more so thought that I'd post the recipe.

  • Based on whatever sized container you are putting your shampoo into
  • 1/2 Coconut Milk
  • 1/2 Dr. Bronners Liquid Soap, I use unscented so I can add my own
  • 1-4 TB Almond Oil. I have dry hair and this helps
  • Essential oils of your choice. About 30-40 drops total for a large shampoo bottle
    • I used Tea Tree
    • Lemongrass
    • Lavender
    • Lemon
Voila! Shampoo for awhile!

Poison Oak Help

The other weekend was spent cleaning up a friend's water ditch in  Trinity County.  Of course, wading through the brush will always lead to some poison oak.

Poison oak doesn't bother me much, but I still get it.  I actually LOVE itching it, but....well, that's not good for it.  Plain old lemon juice from a lemon is highly effective, and very cheap.  The only downside is that citrus oils in sunlight are harmful to your skin.  So only if staying inside.

So here is a easy recipe for some soothing Poison Oak relief.

2 Tablespoons Distilled Water
2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar - overall relief
1 teaspoon Kosher Salt - helps dry
3 drops Lavender - soothes the itch
3 drops Tea Tree - antiseptic

Combine and apply with a cotton ball on affected areas.

Enjoy! But stay out of that poison oak.

Buck's Bees Lip Balm, Recipe and How To

Lip balm is by far my most popular item and, as a bonus, super easy to make.  I make it in tins mostly because I love getting my fingers into things, there's a lot more in the tins, and it looks cool.  You can choose to throw them into chap stick tubes if you want.  They are cheap on Amazon.

Let's get started!  Here is a list with links to items you will need.  This is a large recipe for lots of tins, about 1.5 oz each.  Normal chapstick tubes are .15 oz.  Half this recipe if its too much.  I just like to give away the stuff so I make lots!

Once you have everything, put the coconut oil, Shea butter, and beeswax in your double boiler and on the stove.

Slowly boil, whisk once in awhile and gradually your mixture will clear.

Once nice and clear, you are done.  Take it off the stove and now add your Almond Oil w/E and whisk in, it will remain clear.  Also add your Essential Oils at this point, for this recipe about 40-50 total, and the scent increases with age in your balm.

Pour your final mixture into your tins, about 3/4 full.  Keep the lids off and allow to cool completely.

That's it!! Your done! Screw the lids on and give as gifts after you've stashed enough for yourself.  This makes about 7 tins, or 30+ tubes if you go that route.  If you choose to personalize them, keep on reading and I'll show you what I do with a simple easy wax stamp.

I get my wax and stamp ready.  The stamp is a simple cursive B but I have a cool custom one coming soon so stay tuned!

Melt some wax into a puddle (notice placement in case adding other stuff).  Once you have a large enough puddle of wax, press your stamp into it and allow to set 10 seconds.  I add some olive oil to the stamp to make removal even easier. Then add any other labels and you are done!

Close up

Hope you enjoyed!  Look for more in the future.  Follow me from the right-hand links so you don't miss anything!

Oil Recipes

I've been having great luck with my recipes so far! Super excited and want to replace all of my body care products with DIY ones.  This list is for others who may want to create their own things, and for my records to come back to.

ENJOY!

All oils come from Young Living. All links are to Amazon...

Homemade Shampoo

Dry Toothpaste
I have never brushed with a powdered toothpaste but I am sold now!  My mouth and teeth have never felt fresher and cleaner after brushing!  No flouride, no sugar or sweetener, no bad stuff...PERIOD!
You can add more coconut oil and make more of a paste if the powder is too hard for you.

Women's Perfume - in a roller bottle.  Haven't come up with a 'name' for this perfume yet
Men's After Shave - in small 8oz pump bottle
Thieves Spray
Used as a body spray, veggie cleaner, room deodorizer and lots of other uses.  Young Living sells this Thieves Spray but it is super easy and cheaper to make yourself.
All Purpose Hand Balm  - Many more lotions will be coming on this page but this was my first.  Body butters, lotions, balms, they are all so wonderful for your skin, especially dry skin!
More to come! I've made a wonderful lip balm, owie spray, and more. Stay tuned!

Essential Oils

# 10461474

Up front here is a link to join under me with Young Living JOIN YOUNG LIVING

So I have recently got into Essential Oils.  Oh boy, where to begin.  There are so many uses and applications for oils that trying to write a blog on it would just create a whole web site!

I'll start by saying I use Young Living's Essential Oils.  Purest out there by far, own all of their farms, has great compensation and rewards programs, and overall great business practices.  You have to join to get the best 'wholesale' deals, but with their rewards and treats, well worth it for the quality.

Here is an article that got me interested enough to research more when I was looking for the right company: The Essential Family

I am an independent distributor of YL oils, however, I joined for my own purchases, not to make money.  If you happen to decide to join up at any time, please feel free to join under me and use my member # 10461474 , just click on the JOIN link above.

A nice aspect is that once you join, you get oils at discounted pricing; there is no other commitment involved if you don't want it; you never have to buy more if you don't want; if all you ever want is the starter kit (I have bought again because it is such a good deal!), you can get out right after.

Check out my page on My Oily Resources
And my page on Essential Oil Recipes OIL Recipes

I hope to include a bunch of recipes here in the future.  For now just wanted to share my story.

Scent can change my mood in a second.  After experiencing the wonderful scents coming out of a diffuser, I had to know more.  I joined Young Living and haven't slowed down.

So far, these are some of things IJ have made and are using to replace store bought items.  Every single one of these DIY products I made easily outperforms the store bough stuff.
  • After Shave Lotion
  • 2 different scents of perfume
  • 2 different men's cologne
  • Lip Balm
  • Body Lotion
  • Owie Spray
  • Thieves Spray
  • Shampoo
  • Toothpaste
  • Hand Balm
  • Lotion
Future makes: soap, deodorant, and many more.

I use their Stress Away at work and lather myself in it.  The scent is devine!  Going to try and make a clone version of it.

I use a lot of their Digize products for sports related stuff.

Purification is fantastic for newly sanitizing a space, especially if its smelled bad.  I diffuse this at least once a week.

Man, this list could go on.  Here is a link to their main page where you can read TONS of information about this awesome company.  YOUNG LIVING

There are a ton of resources out there, from books, guides, web sites, e books, you name it and its out there.  Here are some of the resources that I have found that really helped me on my journey with oils.

WEB SITES:
  • Young Living Main Page - Everything about them, their products, their seed-to-seal, etc.  If you are joining, use the link above with my number.
  • Young Living Blog - More great info here on recipes, promotions, etc. YL official Blog
  • The Essential Family - Great site from a member who has gone the extra mile.  Lots of great info, also some ads, and of course you could sign up through her, but I recommend me
  • D Gary Young's Blog - The creator of Young Living.  Wow. This guy has an amazing story and a great work philosophy
  • Foundations of Aromatherapy Certificate Program - ready to get certified?  Here you go for $500
  • The Hippy Homemaker - Great recipes for body products.  Many of my recipes are combos of recipes here and other places
  • Mountain Rose Herbs - not Young Living, but quality oils and lots of products for making things.  Really like their stuff
  • Mama Natural - Kind of a weird one in this list, and geared more towards the mother, or soon to be mother.  But, I found her all natural approach to things awesome and she has some great and safe recipes for body care products
BOOKS:
All links below will take you to Amazon
  •  This book is HUGE with tons of resources, recipes and info on oils

  •  Probably the best, and my most used resource on oils, specifically Young living's oils.  HUGE, spiral bound, and an incredible wealth of oil information.  No one should be without this book,  Also a smaller pocket version but really this is complete
  •  The scientific and technical side of oils, in a large and very expensive format

I will add more as I discover more.  Looking for recipes? Head on over to my recipes page!
